Project/Cost Accountant


Overview

The mission of the Jones Pipeline Services finance team is to be trusted business partners to company operations and company management.  This is accomplished by informing, supporting, collaborating and problem solving with our colleagues. Critical to the mission is ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the financial records and timely reporting and analysis of the financial position of the company.

The project accountant is critical to this mission and to the financial and administrative operations of the company. Essential to the position is a high degree of intelligence and self-awareness as well as strong analytical abilities and the willingness to be a liaison between operations staff and accounting and finance.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Communicate routinely with Project Managers on a variety of job related topics
  • Work with project management staff and accounting staff to ensure proper compliance with accounting procedures including reviewing and analyzing job cost estimates and reports on daily basis
  • Oversee project related accounts receivable and accounts payable functions to ensure accuracy; develop and prepare correct and appropriate accounting accruals
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and supporting calculations and account reconciliations with appropriate documentation correctly and timely
  • Prepare general ledger account reconciliations on a monthly basis correctly and timely
  • Prepare budget reports as well as monthly financial reports
  • Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends as needed
  • Assists accounting team in preparation of monthly management meetings as well as quarterly board meetings-compilation of presentation and financial statement reports
  • Assists in other areas of the accounting department if needed 
  • Foster and cultivate a team oriented environment; is willing to bridge the gap between project management and accounting departments

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or related field, at a minimum
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, previous public accounting experience or construction/cost accounting experience is required
  • Previous, successful experience adhering to strict monthly deadlines
  • Previous experience with internal financial processes: monthly closing, year-end closing, and annual audits
  • Previous experience generating and preparing financial statements and ad-hoc financial reports
  • Ability to be a liaison/business partner between project management and accounting departments
  • Previous experience using an ERP system as primary accounting software is preferred
  • Must be highly proficient with Microsoft excel
