Denver Business Journal - June 20, 2008
Radio-syndication company Jones Media Group—a unit of Jones International Ltd.—has been sold to Triton Media Group as another step in Denver investor Glenn R. Jones' effort to shift his businesses toward education and corporate training.
The transaction closed Friday. Terms were not disclosed.
Centennial-based Jones Media Group syndicates radio programming and services to more than 6,200 U.S. radio stations, the company said in a statement. Its units include Jones Media America, Jones Radio Networks and Jones™.
The company descended from Drake-Chenault, founded in the 1960s, an early supplier of programming to FM stations.
Triton Media Group is a supplier of web content and interactive-media tools to media clients. It operates Triton Radio Networks and is a unit of Los Angeles private-equity firm Oaktree Capital Management LP.
In 1999, Jones International sold its Jones Intercable Ltd. unit to Comcast Corp., and in 2004 sold its Great American Country cable network to the E.W. Scripps Co.
Jones International has retained such subsidiaries as Jones Knowledge Group, Jones International University and Jones/NCTI.
